Clock Watching

Written
2009

 Say there,

         grim one,

         keeper of my biological clock.

I have some questions of you.

Why is it that

         my biological clock once ran

as quietly as my electric watch

         and now sounds like

         shod horses racing over cobblestones?

Is it true that a laugh

is a time out where the clock stops?

And am I penalized each time

      I have Steak and Eggs?

How many minutes do I lose

when I have the fourth beer?

Is it you who makes me

         aware of passing minutes when

I use the microwave and watch

         the timer counts me down?

And do you hide days and months from me?

What did you do with June and  yesterday?

Why did you rob me of

         my grandchildren's time?

Just yesterday they were children and

         now they are getting married.

Do you have a slow clock for favorites

and a fast clock for me?

It does not seem fair to be promised

         long life and

         have years stolen

         while I wasn't looking.

And one last question.

Is my biological clock

         an alarm clock?

If so,

         for when is it set?

Notes
It was written on a Monday after mowing the lawn and noting that it was already near noon. Time does fly when you are older. I remember how slowly it passed when I was young.
