Alex’s Rainbow
Come Alex I want you to meet Mr.Roy G. Biv
the rainbow man, the Viking Giant
who lives in the far North.
For as long as there has been rain and sun
he has made rainbows
and the Northern Lights.
He uses his name to remember
the many bright colors
in his rainbow palette.
R is for Red
the color of your heart
and a ripe delicious apple.
O is for Orange
the color of the pumpkins
you and Dean visit each fall.
Y is for Yellow
just like the banana
you had for breakfast.
G is for Green
the same color as the limes
your father grows in the back yard.
B is for Blue
like the color of a robins eggs
in the nest in my big tree.
I is for indigo
which is a special color for a party dress you
can wear to your Quinceanera.
V is for Violet
the soft sun going color
that kisses the day good bye.
The rainbow pallet speaks
of peace and beauty
and is easy for you to love.
And when you see a rainbow
say thanks to Mr. Roy G. Biv
and he may give you a double.
And if you are a real good girl your mother might
make some cup cakes colored
like the Northern Lights .
