Now What Should My Name Be?

Now What Should Be My Name?

I was a very young cub when my mother

sent me to guard Alex, and when she said good-by

she said: “good by baby, take care of Alex”

Everyone heard this and was sure

my name was Baby. Now can you imagine being

called Baby when you are 3 and ½?

         I was lucky at that.

Mama Bear often called me Poo Bear

and Alex calling me Poo is worse than Baby.

So I am off to find a name

                  suitable for a guard bear

who is three and a half.

I went home and asked my mother my real name

and she said: “ask your father”.

He said it was Teddy Bear.

Hey, I am a girl bear

and just because Papa bear wanted a boy

is no reason to give me a boy’s name.

I went to ask my uncle Clyde Raccoon.

He thought I should be named Bonnie

and he would get me a mask just like his.

I am not just some bear cub

I know what happened when Bonnie and Clyde

took a ride in the country. No way am I a Bonnie

Grandpa Jumbo Elephant did little better.

He ran his trunk over his tusks

and with a smile he suggested “Ivory”

But who has not seen a scene of men

                  carrying Ivory on their shoulders

No way to go so no IVORY.

         Feathered friend Hoot Owl

looked around, as he often does

and said: “obvious, go ask Alex.

So it came to pass that I did go to

Alex and tell her I want a new name

that is fitting for a 3/12 year old guard bear.

         Alex scratched her head

                  and thought and thought

                  and said: “ I understand.”

I was to come back in a week

                  and she would have

                  a new name for me.

The week is up and I am waiting

What is my new name Alex?

I can hardly wait to find out

Notes
Silly stuff for a three year old and I doubt if she even laughed. Great Grandpas are more apt to be silly than funny. We are family just in time. But I wrote it and maybe Dean will like it
