The Anointed One
You end up catching the hot potato,
get the last and short straw
and call heads when tails is coming up.
Unlucky you shout,
cursed by the stars
black cloud over your head.
Really not so,
luck it is not
for you are the Anointed One.
You get up early Sunday morning
and the collateral damage from last night’s party
is all over the house.
Garbage can is soon full,
refrigerator cleaned
sink full of dishes done.
Grandma is sick
and far away
so hop to it.
Wash basket is full
and complaints ring out
announcing nothing to wear,
You are appointed to a committee
the chair assigns duties
and only get it done.
Chair asks your help
and you do everyone else’s task
as the chair takes a bow.
A major family squabble bubbles up
your e-mail box soon fills
with requests to settle the problem.
Referee, worker bee, fixer of all things
is not bad luck
for you are Can Do, The Anointed One
When you feel tired
and depressed
cheer up.
Do not curse your luck,
enjoy the privlidge of being recognized
as more competent than others.
For there is no life reward
that can compare
with being able to do!
