Bring On the Bright Lighted Days

Pile on the holidays,

         bunch them up

starting with the saddened  falling leaves.

When the nights grow longer

         and when the days shorter

my spirits dim with the growing bleakness.

So pile on the holidays

         pumpkins, turkeys and

         costumed little goblins appear.

And an early start to Christmas

         with colored lights flashing

helps my bleak black winter mood.

Shining puddles from

         traffic lights mirror

rainy street reflected help break the mood.

Hats and horns, confetti,

         falling colored balls,

and golden bubbles warm my soul.

Bowls of running men

         in brightly colored uniforms

and their happy bands lie about the season

Pile on the holidays,

          fool my soul

and make believe it is not the dark season.

For I have photosynthesis

         instead of metabolism

         just like a flower.

So it is that I

need bright sun ,blue skies and

the long days of summer to thrive.

Pile on the bright holidays

         mask the bleak and see

if   I can be fooled into winter joy. Doug Minnis 1/2/11

Notes
It was a bleak and rainy day. There was either fog or rain and no sun. I was thankful for the neighborhood Christmas lights. I drove to the store and was thankful for the traffic lights reflecting form the wet pavement. So I came home and wrote this poem just for fun and a morale boost.
